Do you use essential oils?  Have you ever wondered how essential oils are obtained?  Would you like to learn how to distill plants in order to obtain their essential oils and a lesser known product called Hydrosol?  This workshop is an amazing overview on the Art of distillation.  The process of harvesting the plants from the wild, loading the copper alembic stills and learning about the entire process of steam distillation.  This workshop is hands on.  There is limited space for this small workshop.

What you will learn:

1) How to ethically harvest therapeutic/medicinal plants

2) The scientific methods of ratios, testing pH and other important factors

3) The alchemical process of creating amazing hydrosols for personal use

4) How to capture the essential oils from the plant at the end of the process

5) The safety practices of distillation

You will take home

1) One 4 oz. and one 2 oz. bottle of hydrosol and one small bottle of essential oil from the botanical distillation of the day.

2) A guide that contains a detailed overview of what you have learned

3) A notebook for you to take notes

4) A list of books regarding distillation which you can source at the library or purchase online.

What you need

1) Bring your own lunch, however there will be healthy snacks and nutritious summer herbal iced tea provided.

2) Bring sun screen and a hat as we will be harvesting plants for about an hour out in the sun.

3) Bring gloves used in pruning plants.

4) Bring water to carry with you to stay hydrated.

There will be a lot of learning including questions and answer periods.  Also demonstrations, as well as a fascinating history of botanical distillation through the ages.  This workshop will also include many resources for you should you desire to continue to learn.  You will be given information on publications and books written by some of the top distillers in the world who make many wonderful and useful products.  You can check out some of these publications at the library or you can purchase them online.  For more information please call Ben at (307) 690-8155.

The workshop will be held at 1621 V1 Road just 3 miles southeast of Lander.  Most of the workshop will be held outside.
